    The aims of the Coach and Physical Education degree are to acquire the knowledge, understanding and practical experience of the concepts, theories and principles of coach education, sports coaching, teaching physical education and sports development/leadership. In addition, intellectual and practical skills are developed in applied aspects of these areas. Graduates from this degree are expected to not only gain employment in these fields but also to become critical thinkers and independent learners.

    Entry Requirements: Our typical minimum entry requirements for applicants with A levels/AS levels/BTEC is 240 points. Applications from students with non-traditional qualifications are welcome.

    Programme

    1st year overview

    Modules such as ‘Physical Education in the National Curriculum’, ‘The Introduction of Sports Science Principles’, ‘Fitness and Health’ and ‘Foundations of Coaching Practice’ are designed to increase your knowledge, skills and understanding in sports coaching and teaching physical education in schools. This will include practical teaching and coaching experiences with adults and children.

    2nd year overview

    Modules address learning processes in education, research and analysis in physical education and sport, whilst examining coaching theory and methods. Building upon the first year an increasingly ‘international perspective’ will be adopted within modules. You will also experience a placement module (including opportunities to work in the USA) which can be developed to suit your career aspirations.

    3rd year overview

    This year includes crucial compulsory modules in ‘Leadership’ and ‘Assessing, Profiling and Sharing Quality Provision’. You can also choose two modules to suit your interests and chosen career path. The degree programme culminates in a 10,000 word dissertation.
