With a strong emphasis on the 20th and 21st centuries and on contemporary French culture, literature, society, politics and linguistics, this course will help you develop advanced language skills for use in many situations and across different registers. Providing you with an excellent foundation for many careers, you will acquire sound grammatical knowledge and an understanding of French structural principles combined with creative linguistic and communication skills.
You should have 200 points from at least two A-levels. Single Honours students may enter with A or AS level or GCSE; and Joint Honours students may enter as beginners (although only one language can be studied as a beginner). On registration, we will assess your language competence and allocate you to the appropriate language level.
BA French Studies
Single Honours students take eight modules at each of three levels. Joint Honours involves four modules from each level in French Studies, plus four from your other subject. At the end of level 1, you can choose to continue on a Single or Joint Honours degree or study French Studies as a Major/Minor subject.
