Comments about BA Landscape Architecture with Planning - At the institution - Sheffield - South Yorkshire

  • Objectives
Landscape Architecture encompasses the design, planning and management of the urban and rural environment. Landscape Architects are uniquely positioned to make a positive contribution to improving the quality of outdoor places, combining skills in design with a thorough understanding of environmental sustainability and social challenges. The Department of Landscape at Sheffield is at the forefront of landscape architecture education and research in the UK. Our multi-disciplinary courses are designed to meet the needs of the modern landscape architecture profession, combining a creative and imaginative approach to design with an understanding of the social and environmental context. No other UK department offers comprehensive training in landscape architecture with a specialism in either planning or ecology. Course content is rich and diverse, focused on real landscape projects developed through experiment and discussion in the design studio. These projects support a thorough academic programme and professional preparation. The Landscape Architecture with Planning option is specifically designed to train Landscape Architects with excellent strategic skills and a broad understanding of the political, social and economic context of urban and rural environments. Sheffield itself is an inspiring context for study, featuring large-scale urban renewal and development, both in the city centre and residential areas. Located at the junction of lowland and upland Britain, it is also famous for its proximity to the Peak District, providing a wide diversity of habitats, geological formations and vegetation. Students undertake field trips locally, nationally, and to other European countries. Mature students welcome.
