    The study of Philosophy is amongst the most rewarding of all fields. It is also amongst the most universally useful of all subjects, since the skills Philosophy students acquire are those skills that are required for any branch of human intellectual activity, whether campaigning for something to change, presenting or formulating a new idea; making an argument, or simply being able to understand any argument, no matter who might be making it.

    Year 1

    All students take the modules Introduction to Philosophical Studies I: Theoretical Philosophy and Introduction to Philosophical Studies II: Practical Philosophy. In addition, you may take any two 30 credit modules from a wide range of modules in the humanities and social sciences such as Criminology, Drama, English, History, Media and Cultural Studies, Modern Languages, Politics, Psychology, Sociology.

    In Year 2 you will take the compulsory module Metaphysics: Being, Appearance and Reality, along with two further Philosophy modules from the following: Modern Philosophical Texts, Contemporary Political Philosophy, Aesthetics, Ethical Issues in Politics. You will also take an additional module from another field of study.

    In Year 3 you will undertake a Philosophy Project along with three modules from the Philosophy list. These include Contemporary Continental Philosophy, Feminist Theory, Philosophy and Social Theory, Contemporary Political Philosophy, Philosophy and the Body, Body and Emotion, Contemporary Political Ideologies, Philosophy and Film, Ethical Issues in Politics, Global Ethics, Theories of Justice.
