• Objectives
  Our language courses at Sheffield focus on small-group teaching, and you'll be taught by internationally-renowned experts in our field. Beginners and post-A Level Russian students follow separate language courses tailored to their levels for two full years. We offer a core programme in Russian culture and civilisation that complements language instruction at each level. All students follow either a beginners or advanced Russian course, depending on their qualifications, and modules in Russian culture. Russian with Czech offers a range of options, including Russian literature, art, cinema, social history and linguistics. The Czech side of your degree includes modules in the language and culture of the Czech Republic. You study Czech from level one and take modules in Czech history and Czech literature. You spend half your year abroad in Russia, and half in Prague or Brno through our Erasmus exchanges at those universities. The course lasts four years. You'll gain a thorough grounding in all aspects of spoken and written Russian and Czech, including conversation, reading, translating and oral presentation. We also hone your reading, presentation and writing skills in English.
• Entry requirements
  Entry requirements GCE/VCE A Levels - BBC Two GCE A Levels plus two GCE AS Levels - BB+BC Scottish Highers - ABBB Irish Leaving Cert. - ABBBB International Baccalaureate - 30 points including 5 points at Higher Level in a Modern Foreign Language - Russian if taken. Core Requirements - We do not require a qualification in Russian but it can affect the offer made. Applicants without A Level Russian should normally have at least C at A Level in another Modern Foreign Language. If you have taken A Level Russian we would normally require at least grade C.
