    Course description
The programme, taught jointly by the School of Computer Science and Manchester Business School, will equip you with the mixture of technical and contextual skills required to design and deploy effective software systems in commercial or public organisations.

Modern organisations are heavily dependent on computer systems, which can range from applications such as financial management packages to sophisticated decision support and knowledge management tools. As the `knowledge economy' becomes ever more important, the need for software to manage the information that an organisation depends on is also becoming more important.  The programme therefore develops the much sought abilities to develop software systems using an understanding of the consequences of introducing or changing IT systems as part of a wider collection of activities within an organisation.

This is a four year programme and involves you undertaking a one year work placement in industry between the second and third years of your study at Manchester.  Besides the money that you earn during this year, you also gain practical experience that can be invaluable both in your final year project and when competing for graduate jobs.  Students with industrial experience not only tend to improve their final degree performance but also tend to develop clearer ideas about their future career path.
