  • Objectives
    This course is designed for those students who wish to specialise in the development and maintenance of modern computer-based systems. There are four areas that characterise the course. The course develops the technical and non-technical skills necessary for you to demonstrate a professional attitude and work successfully. The course can also be combined as a Joint Honours degree with another subject. You will have the opportunity to specialise in areas that interest you at levels 2 and 3.
  • Entry requirements
    You should also have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent) plus one of the following: - at least 160 points from two or more A2/Vocational 6-unit awards - 160 points from a relevant Vocational 12-unit award - a pass in a relevant BTEC ND. Appropriate Access courses will also be considered. Students in possession of the NCC AIDCS can be admitted into Honours level if they have IELTS 6/TOEFL 580/213 or equivalent.

    Course structure

    For Single Honours you take eight modules at each of three levels. Joint Honours involves four modules from each module in Computing, plus four from your other subject. The course structure is being revised and some modules may vary.

        * Introduction to Programming (in Java)
        * Discrete Mathematics
        * Computing Abstractions and Skills
        * IT and Problem Solving

    Level 2

        * Data Modelling and Database Systems
        * Structured Systems Analysis (employability issues)
        * Communication Networks
        * Object Oriented Analysis and Design

    Level 3

        * Final Year Computing Project
        * Software Engineering 2
        * Advanced Database Systems
        * E-commerce Applications (optional)
