    Programme

    The material studied in Computing as a Joint Honours Degree is chosen to give an understanding of the main topics needed to use computers. In the first year, modules in Programming and Information System Development are studied to provide the basis for future work.

    In Year Two, the module on Database Design and Implementation is introduced and provides the insight into how information is stored and manipulated. This is a key skill as most industries now rely upon holding and using complex data sets. Students will also develop the ability to analyse user requirements for system design. This enables them to begin to understand how to build well constructed systems to meet user needs.

    The third year can be spent in industry on a placement to gain invaluable professional experience to complement the studies.

    In the final year students will undertake a project which brings together the knowledge and skills that they have developed. Students will also study further modules taken from a wide range of topics. These include Software Architecture, Database Management Systems and Innovation and Technology.
