• Objectives
  If you are not sure which branch of engineering you really want to do then the choices in the BSc(Hons) Engineering degree may be for you. Perhaps you have looked at other named programmes available but none of them actually fits in with your career plans? Are there compulsory subjects in other programmes you really do not want to do? If the analytical aspects of maths in a BEng degree are a particular problem, then the maths content in the BSc degree might be better for you.

  There is a common first year, with core modules in mathematics, engineering design, computer programming, materials and manufacturing processes, electronics and professional and communication skills. In the second year, core modules include Mechatronics and Group Project and Management. You then choose one of two pathways - materials and manufacturing or mechanical engineering - Manufacturing and Electronics - each following a more specialised pathway exploring areas such as Alternative Energy and Robotics.
  
  Year 3 core modules follow on from Year 2's and, as with all engineering degrees, you will also do an individual project.
  
  You do not need to worry at the start of the programme about the pathway you might follow, as the first year is designed to give you a taster of both. You will have the opportunity to discuss your options with your Student Adviser and Programme Leader towards the end of Year 1, and to talk to subject staff and students from other years to get some idea of what to expect.
