    Course Description

    For students with some sewing experience, learn to make well-finished garments from patterns and develop your ideas to a successful outcome. A good foundation in garment making.

    What does the course lead to?

    Successful completion can lead onto  BTEC Production Techniques, BTEC Lingerie, BTEC National Diploma in Fashion, ABC Tailoring.

    What does the course involve?

    This course covers basic pattern cutting and garment construction techniques, fashion awareness, use of fabrics and an introduction to the design process.

    Students will research current fashion trends develop ideas for a garment, cut a pattern for it and then make it up in fabric.  In addition, you will make a folder of samples and information on fabrics and construction techniques and processes, current fashion, exhibitions etc. Students will need to demonstrate a  commitment to the programme of study and be prepared to progress work at home between sessions.

    -Working to Fashion Design Briefs
    -Developing Sewing Skills for Fashion

    How much should I study outside class?

    A certain amount of study at home will be required each week.

    How is the course assessed?

    Assessment is continuous.

    What books and equipment do I need?

    Scissors, needles, pins, tape measure, thimble, threads, A4 folder with plastic sleeves. Other items may need to be purchased during the course.
