  General information
  
  The BTEC First Diploma in Business is a vocationally related qualification designed to provide knowledge of business activities.  It focuses on the skills required in a variety of business organisations.   This course provides students with the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised level 2 qualification and is equivalent to approximately 4 GCSEs.
  
  Course content
  
  The course is made up of 6 units as follows: 3 Core Units -
  
      * Exploring Business Purposes
      * Developing Customer Relations
      * Investigating Financial Control
  
  Specialist units include:  
  
      * People in Organisations
      * Doing Business Online
      * Exploring Business Enterprise
  
  Students will also study for a Key Skills Award in Communication, Application of Number  and  Information Technology.  In addition to the BTEC First Diploma in Business, all students will be given an opportunity to enhance their skills for employability by taking the Level1 "Foundation Certificate in Personal Finance" (FCPF), which is accredited by the Institute of Financial Services (School of Finance).  For this qualification, students will learn about finances and the influence that they have on every day life.  Essential topics such as Debt, Loans, Credit Cards and Budgeting are covered to give the individuals the confidence to make important financial decisions. There are two units covered for this qualification -
  
      * Unit 1: Introduction to Money
      * Unit 2: Money Management.  
  
  Both of these units are assessed by external tests. Students who succesfully complete the course will progress to Level 2 Intermediate Certificate in Personal Finance (ICPF).
  
  Teaching and assessment
  
  All units for the BTEC First Diploma in Business are internally set and assessed according to the grading criteria laid down by the Awarding Body, through assignments and course work. On completion of the course, a final grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction will be awarded depending on the grades achieved for each unit. For the Foundation Certificate in Personal Finance (FCPF) and the Intermediate Certificate in Personal Finance, each unit will be assessed by a single 30-minute objective test that comprises 30 questions.
  
  Progression
  
  The course can lead on to employment or progression on to a higher level qualification such as the National Diploma in Business.
