    General information

    This course provides a sound foundation in the practical and theoretical skills necessary to start a career in modern engineering. Alternatively, the course allows entry into the next stage of National Diplomas in Engineering based subjects. This course provides an ideal route for prospective technicians in a wide range of engineering disciplines. If the student decides to seek employment the course will allow entry into the next stage of the qualification tree with either a National Certificate or a City and Guilds course.

    Course content

    The course is unit-based and the award of a Diploma requires the successful completion of all units:

        * Working practices in engineering
        * Using and interpreting engineering information
        * Mathematics for engineering technicians
        * Engineering marking out
        * Selecting engineering materials
        * Engineering assembly techniques
        * Fabrication techniques and sheet metal work
        * Applied electrical and mechanical science for technicians
        * Using computer aided drawing techniques in engineering
        * Selecting and using secondary machining techniques to remove material

    Teaching and assessment

    Each module listed above will have a series of assignments to be completed in which students must pass in order to complete the course successfully.  This course is divided between classroom and workshop and self structured study.

    Progression

    With sufficient passes at merit Level you can progress to a Level Three National Diploma.
