Course Description

This qualification is for those working as a manager/senior lead practitioner in a childcare setting, childminding network coordinators or advisors, area SENCOs. It is also suitable for employees, currently in a level 3 position, who are planning with the support of their employer, to move into a management position.

What does the course lead to?

You may progress onto the Foundation Degree in Early Years, or a degree in Early Childhood Studies, and career progression.

What does the course involve?

 NVQ is a vocational qualification and therefore a job at the appropriate level is essential. This level 4 qualification is for those working as a manager/senior lead practitioner in a childcare setting, childminding network coordinators or advisors, area SENCOs. This course is also suitable for employees, currently in a level 3 position, who are planning with the support of their employer, to move into a management position. They may then use this qualification as part of their continuing professional development.  

The course has nine units and is run over 1 academic year. It includes 8 taught sessions held at the college as well as practical assessments at your place of work. At college you will learn about all the areas of childcare and management that you will need to know as a level 4 childcare worker, this will include the following:

* Ensuring provision meets the needs of children
* Promotion of children’s development
* Working with colleagues, other professionals and agencies
* Protecting children’s rights
* Policies and procedures
* Reflecting on your practice and supporting others to reflect on their practice
* Managing staff including supervision and appraisals

You will need to be committed to attending the College sessions and keeping your assessment appointments.
