This comprehensive BTEC Award runs for one day a week for two terms. It covers issues such as layout, site management, rollovers and how to get your site online. Photoshop topics include creating vector and bitmap image content, optimization, interactivity, exporting methods and integration. On completion students can progress to the Web Design: Dreamweaver & Photoshop CS: BTEC Award, or Web Site Design and Creation: Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash CS: BTEC Certificate. This course is taught using Apple Macs. Students interested in this course may also be interested in Web Design:Flash CS

    What does the course involve?

The aim of this course is to give you a wide knowledge of all the basic techniques and skills you will need to create a website. The classes take the form of demonstrations and exercises that you will be able to recreate. You will then have plenty of time to develop these exercises to incorporate your own creative style. As you progress you will learn to incorporate your skills in fully operational websites.  We will cover the basic skills of site creation using Dreamweaver and Fireworks. These include file management, preparing images, tables, linking, basic CSS and text formatting As you progress you will learn to make informed decisions on design, navigation and workflow.  The main program we will use is Dreamweaver.  Dreamweaver and Fireworks are professional programs for designing web pages. We will use Dreamweaver to build our sites and Fireworks to prepare the graphics

What are the facilities and equipment like?

We use AppleMac G5 computers.  B/W AND COLOUR printing on plain paper is available.  Apple Macs are currently installed in the study centres for use outside of class.

How much should I study outside class?

You will be expected to plan and research your web project outside class.

    How is the course assessed?

The exercises set each week will be monitored to assess understanding and your course project, sketches and research will be assessed every few weeks.

What books and equipment do I need?
A notebook, pen and A4 folder are expected of every student each week. There are worksheet handouts provided each week online but it is essential that you take additional notes, as it can slow down your work rate if you don’t have your own notes to refer to.  Having access to your own computer, Dreamweaver and Fireworks is strongly recommended but not a requirement.  A data stick/memory key/Flash Drive would be useful to back up work but they are not a requirement.
