• Objectives
  The course aims to: * Provide students with substantive knowledge and understanding of a variety of methods, techniques and approaches that support research into environmental and climate change * Allow and encourage students to pursue a sustained programme of original research in an appropriate field of enquiry * Develop a range of professional competencies and personal transferable skills that will enable students to pursue a variety of employment opportunities or to continue with more advanced research programmes.
• Entry requirements
  Successful applicants must normally hold at least a lower second Honours degree in a related subject. Applicants with a lower class of degree and/or from outside of these areas will be considered individually and are usually interviewed prior to being offered a place. Applicants without a first degree, but who have relevant work experience, are also considered on an individual basis.

• Course description
  The last 30 to 40 years have witnessed dramatic changes in weather patterns and climate. Superimposed on changes in climate are a number of human impacts which are in part responsible for changing climate and weather patterns but also modify the way in which the physical environment responds to climate change.
  
  Future prospects
  
  The Masters by Research Programme in Environmental and Climate Change will appeal to those students who have an interest in recent environmental change especially in relation to historical climates and projected climate change scenarios and will equip graduates to take up research/consultancy positions with appropriate private/government agencies (eg ADAS, DEFRA, EA). The programme will also prepare students contemplating progress to MPhil and/or PhD training programmes
  
  Course content
  
  This course is designed to equip students with the advanced research skills required to support a substantive piece of original research in a chosen aspect of Environmental or Climate Change. Potential research projects relevant to the programme include; an analysis of historical climate data, analysis of the relationship between North Atlantic circulation patterns and European climate change, palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of the impacts of changing weather patterns on water resources and soil erosion.
