Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements. However, a good basic knowledge in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT is required. Also applicants will need to perform well at interview. The applicant needs to attend the course with overalls, safety spectacles and a pair of stout protective footwear.
Course Description:
The EAL Certificate in Engineering and Technology has been designed for those candidates who wish to become an engineer (e.g. maintenance engineer, mechanical engineer etc.) and are thinking about engineering as a career but who would like some experience of the job role first, new to the industry and would like to learn new skills.

Minimum of 4 Units
-ETF/003 - Understanding cutting and forming and assembling engineering materials
-ETF/004 - Understanding joining engineering metals
-ETF/007 - Understanding mechanical and electrical maintenance
-ETF/013 - Understanding basic maths and science used in engineering
-ETF/018 - Understanding basic pipe fitting
-Key Skills Units (Application of Number, Communications and Information and Communication Technology at the appropriate level).
The above is studied together with Performing Engineering Operations Level 1, depending on GCSE grades.
These units may change due to number of candidates on the course.
Students wishing to pursue a career in this area need to achieve good standards of Literacy, Numeracy and ICT. For this reason, if you are under 19 years of age when you begin your course, you will be required to study these essential skills.
What next?
On successful completion, students may progress on to Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 or EAL Technical Certificate Level 2 in Fabrication and Welding.
How is the course assessed?
The assessment strategy is on-going within the units. Phase tests are set at the appropriate stages after each unit is completed.
