    Entry requirements Typical minimum entry qualifications for the course include: an appropriate BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Science, AVCE in Science, one 'A' level pass in a Science subject or any qualification deemed to be equivalent to the above. Mature students who do not hold the minimum entry requirements will be considered if there is evidence that they are likely to benefit from the course.

    General information

    This new pathway will give sound knowledge of: Cell Biology, Microbiology, Physiology and topics related to Forensic Science. The programme contents are designed to be compatible with modules that are scheduled on the BSc programme at the University of Greenwich. You will also learn other supporting skills such as computing, data processing and practical laboratory skills.

    Course content

    Stage 1:

        * Fundamental Biology of Cells & Microbes
        * Basic Chemistry for Life Sciences
        * Skills for Science
        * Practical & Study Skills
        * Control Processes in Biology
        * Physiological Processes and Molecular Genetics
        * Biological Molecules
        * Introductory Forensic Science
        * Practical Unit

    Stage 2:

        * Physiological Systems & Regulation
        * Bioenergetics & Metabolism
        * Work Experience or Industrial Studies
        * Laboratory Unit Project
        * Cell Biology
        * Selected Topics in Forensic Science
        * Practical Unit.

    Teaching and assessment

    There are assessments associated with the units. They may include essays, assignments, short tests and end of unit exams.

    Progression

    Successful students may go onto the second year of BSc Forensic Science at Greenwich University. Alternatively, students may wish to pursue a career as a Crime Scene Examiner.
