Información

The Faculty is particularly aware of the need for active links between undergraduate programmes and the world of work. There are close working relationships with many industrial and professional employers, and effective preparation for careers within and beyond science.

The breadth of subject areas within the Science Faculty is reflected in its research programmes. To give just a few examples, research in the Faculty ranges from the corrosion of steel piling to the truthfulness of witness statements, the quantum mechanics of subatomic particles and the study (in Zimbabwe, Wyoming and Ontario) of volcanic rocks. Patents have been filed for anti-cancer drugs and drug delivery systems, and in another laboratory the atom-by-atom structures of protein molecules are being determined using nuclear magnetic resonance methods.

Mature students, and those with non-standard qualification, are particularly welcome to apply to study science at Portsmouth. Such applicants may be particularly interested in the programme of Extended degrees four-year programmes in which the first year is designed as an opportunity to update forgotten school science or to convert from a non-science background.
