    This course is designed to produce graduates who have the skills, knowledge and competencies to carry out managerial roles within international hospitality companies. It aims to produce graduates with an in depth knowledge of the complexities of the international hospitality industry and its environment, who can use their knowledge to make judgements concerning the strategic and operational issues which confront the industry, and who can devise and implement strategies for resolving these issues.

    Entry Requirements

    -Students are normally accepted on to the course based upon the following admissions criteria:

    -A 2:2 honours degree in hospitality management or related field.

    -A 2:2 honours degree in general business with relevant industrial experience.

    -An HND in hospitality management with a minimum of three years managerial work experience in the hospitality industry.

    -Professional qualifications in hospitality management with relevant work experience.

    -Candidates for whom English is not their native language will require a TOEFL score of 550/213 or IELTS at 6.0 or equivalent.

    -Exceptionally, the University’s standard APEL procedures may be applied for candidates who can provide appropriate evidence of prior experiential learning.

    The course is taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops and seminars with assessment completed through examination and coursework. In addition to this the MA involves a residential where students obtain specialised input from industry speakers and visiting lecturers.

    Career Opportunities

    The course equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge required for entry into management positions in the international hospitality industry and related sectors. Alternatively students may wish to pursue a career in research, education or consultancy.

    Special Features

    A residential will be included on the course in the second term. Its aims to extend material taught on the course and to allow students to engage and interact with industrialists and academics from the international hospitality industry. It involves lectures on topical issues confronting international hospitality companies, workshops and seminars in which students will engage in discussions with industrialists and give presentations on their dissertation topic. Opportunities will be available for students to receive career counselling and to network with employers. The approximate cost of the residential is £250.

    Other Information

    Industrial Internship (Optional)

    An industrial internship is offered on the course in order to allow students the opportunity to gain work experience after they graduate. The internship has been developed in partnership with a range of hospitality employers and will involve companies who operate in the international market-place and/or intend to develop in particular parts of the world. The student will be interviewed for employment in the UK for a maximum period of 12 months. This will allow students exposure to the operating systems and practices of the company and may enhance their employment opportunities with the company in the students' home country. This is a non assessed part of the course and is optional.
