    Entry requirements A degree awarded by a university in the United Kingdom with first or second class honours in a relevant discipline, or a degree or professional qualification deemed by the Academic Board to be of an equivalent standard. An applicant who does not have an undergraduate degree or equivalent may be considered for entry to this programme provided he or she can produce evidence of at least three years’ work experience in a field of relevance to equality and diversity. On the satisfactory production of evidence, the applicant will be given a written task designed to assess his or her potential to cope with the programme and, subject to passing the task, will be interviewed by the Programme Organiser before a final decision on whether to admit is made.

    This programme is designed for equality and diversity professionals and champions working in a range of organisations including, private sector companies, public sector institutions and bodies, trade unions, voluntary and charity sector organisations. It aims to provide in-depth specialist knowledge, to develop a range of critical, analytical skills and to accredit these with either an MSc, a Postgraduate Diploma or a Postgraduate Certificate. The programme has been developed because the specialist area of equality and diversity management is becoming increasingly important as UK and European legislation compels organisations to take action to address fairness at work. In addition, business case arguments for attracting talented employees and broadening the customer base encourage equality and diversity to be put on the strategic agenda of all organisations, while concerns with social justice, ethics and worklife balance are increasingly key concerns for employees and trade unions.

    Programme outline

    The programme is delivered through a series of fiveday blocks of teaching, which allows you to study intensively. Each block will cover a full module, and you will complete each module before moving on to the next. As you progress you will accumulate credits towards your final qualification. The table below shows the modules and their credit values that you will be expected to take depending on whether you are registered for the MSc, a Postgraduate Diploma or a Postgraduate Certificate. If you join to take the Certificate you can choose alternative course units to those suggested below, subject to the recommendation of the Programme Director. You will note that one of the courses (Investigating Equality and Diversity in practice) is a double module (worth 30 credits). This differs from the other modules because it is a tutorguided, home-based study allowing you to focus on a ‘live’ issue in your own organisation, or on a contemporary topic you wish to explore in depth.

    Assessment

    Assessment takes a number of different forms including written reports, case analyses, essays and presentations. There are no examinations in this programme.
