  • Objectives
    The ability to be agile in diverse business environments, to be able to anticipate future disruptions in business practices and to change direction at speed, are now recognised as the basis for edging past competitors in a growing international competitiveness. The aim of the course is to develop these sets of abilities with a particular focus on a thorough understanding of the international financial markets in which businesses operate and an understanding of corporate policies in the areas of capital investment, financing, acquisitions and restructuring. The rapid integration of international capital markets, the worldwide accessibility of investment funds and the continuous development of new and sophisticated financial products require business managers to understand how these changes affect the operations of their businesses and react accordingly.
  • Entry requirements
    The standard requirement is a lower second UK Honours degree or equivalent, in business, finance, economics or related degrees with major components in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics. Applicants with substantial relevant professional experience will also be considered. Those without the standard requirements can attend the Graduate Diploma Course in Economics or Finance prior to enrolling on this course.

    Course structure
    The course consists of of six essential taught modules, five of which are core and one optional module, together with a dissertation of about 12,000-15,000 words.

    -Banking Operations and Strategy
    -Domestic and International Banking
    -Financial Markets and Portfolio Analysis
    -Quantitative Methods for Finance

    Optional modules (choose one):

    -Corporate Finance
    -Development Finance
    -International Finance
    -Economics of Integration
    -Bank Capital Management
    -Financial Derivatives
    -Modelling and Forecasting Financial Markets

    Assessment
    A variety of methods are used including examinations, computer workshops, essays, reports, tests and case study presentations.

    Career opportunities

    The course will be of interest to graduates seeking careers in multinationals, import/export companies, domestic and international financial organisations and international banks. Those already employed can update their knowledge and/or improve their careers. In addition, it can lead onto further study.

    Attendance & duration

    Full-time: 1 year, 3 evenings a week
    Part-time (eve): 2 - 4 years, up to 2 evenings a week
