Comments about MEng Microelectronics - At the institution - Sheffield - South Yorkshire

  • Objectives
The Institution of Electrical Engineers accredits all of our courses, and our MEng degree will currently qualify you for immediate full membership of the Institution and satisfies the academic criteria for CEng status. Flexibility is the central feature. You can choose your own degree as your interests develop. Your course will include a major project, modules common to all courses, and specialist modules. At levels 1 and 2 all students follow the same course. You do not need to decide between a BEng or MEng until the end of level 2, when you will have enough knowledge and experience to make an informed decision. Your choice need not be the degree option or specialisation for which you originally registered. The pioneering Sheffield Industrial Project Scheme gives level 2 students the chance to work on real industrial problems. Level 3 builds on your knowledge and applies it to engineering problems. At level 3, you will carry out a major project in direct collaboration with an academic supervisor from one of the department's research groups. This stage extends your experience, with an emphasis on individual project work, in your chosen specialisation. At level 4 you will take modules which increase your knowledge of your chosen area, and optional modules which maintain your breadth of understanding.
