    Msc Advanced Studies in Midwifery
  • Course description
The focus of the programme is on promoting excellence in caring and in partnership with women. Midwives will be encouraged to use their practice expertise to enhance skills in clinical judgement and decision-making in new areas such as genetics in antenatal and neonatal screening; dealing with prospective trends in practice; and new client groups with specific needs.

The flexible online mode of delivery enables students to study at a time and place to suit their own commitments, using electronic learning materials and virtual student support mechanisms. One-to-one personalised and student group support is also provided by face-to-face tutorials (if appropriate) or across the internet via the E-POP system (webcam).

Specific coaching in research design and processes is provided for the dissertation stage of the programme. Students may elect to exit with a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Studies in Midwifery after completing 3 modules (60 credits); a Postgraduate Diploma after completing 6 modules (120 credits); or the full Masters award (completing 6 modules and dissertation, 180 credits).

Each student uses a Personal Development Profile (PDP) on the programme, to create an individual pathway relevant to clinical work and continuing professional development plans from the module array.
