    This programme provides an education in the area of computer forensics and electronic discovery (e-discovery). It equips you to conduct forensic investigations (eg managing evidence) as part of investigatory teams and to present the results of your analyses as part of internal and external audits, in cyber investigation reports and in legal settings.

    The Humanities Advanced Technology & Information Institute is internationally recognised for its work in digital preservation and curation, an area of expertise central to computer forensics and e-discovery. Additional tuition will come from such areas as computing and legal studies.

    Content

    The programme consists of a mix of taught courses, hands-on laboratory work, group projects and dissertation work.

    In semester 1 this includes:

        * Introduction to computer forensics and  e-discovery
        * Legal and regulatory frameworks
        * Information systems.

    Courses in semester 2 will include:

        * Computer forensics processes and investigative techniques
        * Managing and presenting digital evidence
        * Cryptography
        * Cryptoanalysis and information security.

    In both semesters you will participate in a professional development course which will bring you into contact with a range of researchers and practitioners in the world of computer forensics and e-discovery.

    Following the successful completion of examinations, you will spend the summer months working on a research project or dissertation that will enable you to engage with a complex computer forensics problem.

    Preference may be given to students applying with a degree in computing science, information science or law
