    We all recognise the importance of a national information infrastructure in creating an information society. Given the rapid spread of IT, ensuring the security of information and authentication of access is becoming even more important. Demands for secure systems come from all sections of the community: individuals,
    business and industry.

    This award provides up-to-date, relevant practical information on security and crime, underpinned by an academic framework. A range of external speakers in certain modules will ensure that the information covered reflects state-ofthe-
    art positions in the field. On successful completion of this course, you will be well-equipped for a career in this rapidly-expanding branch of IT. Due to the breadth of technical and legal issues covered, you will be able to make a major contribution to information security. This course is accredited by the
    British Computer Society and gives exemption from some of its examinations.

    Course Content

    The modules you will study are:

        * Project Management and Research Methodologies
        * Security Management
        * Computer Forensics
        * Network Security
        * Cryptography and Electronic Commerce
        * Computer Law

    How To Study

    Each module is taught in a five-day block and assessment usually takes place within three weeks. You will need to spend a substantial amount of time working independently on reading and preparing for the assessment. This should represent about 160 hours of work and will mainly be assessed through coursework. All assessment is courseworkbased. While the style of coursework may vary, most modules will require two research-style papers or essays, usually around 3,500 words.

    expanding area, which leads to an increasingly high demand from industry for qualified security specialists. Numerous career options exist, including security analysis, reducing and combating computer crime, and senior positions in IT security in many organisations.
