    Introduction

    Cultural tourism focuses on visitor experiences at cultural events ranging all the way from art galleries and theatres to popular music festivals. This Masters-level programme gives you the skills and knowledge to analyse, manage and develop cultural tourism.

    Cultural tourism is becoming increasingly popular as cities seek to attract visitors by offering diverse cultural facilities. The issues and opportunities around cultural tourism are both topical and complex.

    The programme offers a high level of flexibility so that you can develop particular interests and skills. As well as choosing the subject of your dissertation you can also opt for a Tourism Development Independent Study module.

    Course Content

    Stage 1
    Postgraduate Certificate (PgC)

        * International Tourism Development and Tourism Development Theory and Methods

    Stage 2
    Postgraduate Diploma (PgD)

    As for Certificate plus:

        * Cultural and Creative Industries and

    either

        * Experiential Marketing for Tourism

    or

        * Culture Tourism Development Fieldwork

    or

        * Mediatised Tourism Landscapes

    or

        * Tourism Development Independent Study

    Stage 3
    Masters (MSc or MA)

    As for Diploma plus

        * Cultural Tourism Development Dissertation

    Teaching and Assessment

    We use lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops to help you learn. We monitor your progress through essays, examinations, projects, student-led seminars and dissertations.

    Work Experience

    You will gain real-world experience through residential field visits. In the past these have included Paris, Barcelona, Prague and Dublin. You'll also benefit from the sharing of experiences by guest speakers from the tourism industry.

    Career Opportunities

    Past students from our tourism programmes have gone on to a range of management careers including in museums, attractions and destination marketing. You may also choose to set up a tourist business or go on to research and lecturing.
