    This programme, which is available in two pathways (Digital or Archives & Records Management), provides you with training that will equip you to work as an archivist, records manager and digital curator, and provides you with a thorough grounding for further research in these fields. The programme will provide an understanding of contemporary information and records management issues against the background of historical needs and goals of information and records users. It uniquely pays special attention to the management of digital records and electronic resources. It will develop skills in the core competencies of archives, records and information management, digitisation, digital curation and preservation issues, archival theory, user needs and description, cataloguing and navigation.

    The programme is aimed at postgraduate students with a vocational interest in records management, archives and digital curation.

    The programme provides opportunities for a two-week placement in an archive, records management or digital repository.

    Content

    The programme consists of eight courses spread over two semesters. All students take courses in:

        * Archives and records information management
        * Records and evidence
        * Description, cataloguing and navigation
        * Management, curation and preservation of digital materials.

    In addition, students aiming for the MSc in Information Management & Preservation (Digital) take further courses in Digitisation and Document encoding. Students aiming for the MSc in Information Management & Preservation (Archives & Records Management) take additional courses in Archives and records theory, and Records and the transition to the digital.

    There is an initial intensive one-week non-assessed skills course for all students.

    Students aiming for the qualification of MSc also complete a course in Research methods and professional studies, and a dissertation.

    All courses can be taken individually for continuing professional development purposes.
