  • Entry requirements
    Entry requirements: An Honours degree or equivalent and a good command of English as evidenced by IELTS (6.0), TOEFL (213 for the computer-based test and 79 for the internet-based test) or previous study in English. (Candidates who do not meet the language requirements may take an English course at the University prior to starting their programme.) Other qualifications, together with work experience, may also be acceptable. We also offer a pre-Masters programme. Information about this is available from the Admissions Service.

    COURSE CONTENT

    Students are immersed in the principles and practices of international tourism management, seeing its effects at grass-roots level in the surrounding Scarborough area – the UK’s first seaside resort. This setting offers a wealth of real-life case studies to support learning and assessment work, particularly as the town is currently undergoing a £120 million regeneration project. Further exposure to tourism management in a realworld context is delivered through a varied programme of regional and international visits and opportunities to engage with tourism practitioners and policy makers. The programme aims to equip students with the advanced understanding, knowledge and skills essential to successful careers in management roles in the expanding local and international tourism industry. It reflects and draws upon current research within the Business School and adopts strategic and applied multidisciplinary approaches that transfer to a variety of international contexts.

    FURTHER INFORMATION
    The programme is split into three semesters. The first two are teaching semesters and the third is spent working independently, with academic supervision, on the project or dissertation.

    ASSESSMENT
    Modules are assessed through a range of means, including coursework, examinations, presentations and group work, and all students complete a project or dissertation of 15,000–20,000 words.
