    The programme is designed primarily to prepare trainees for employment as clinical physicists within the UK's National Health Service and so incorporates both theoretical and practical training. UK students take the programme on a part-time basis in order to complete the professional training requirements of the Institute of Physics & Engineering in Medicine and will sit the Institute's first professional examination at the end of their second year.

    The syllabus includes:

        * Anatomy
        * Clinical measurement
        * Electronics
        * Imaging
        * Medical equipment management
        * Medical statistics
        * Physiology
        * Radiation protection
        * Radiopharmacy
        * Radiotherapy physics.

    The practical training incorporates three placements in radiotherapy; nuclear medicine or health physics; physiological measurement or equipment management.
