• Objectives
  This unit aims to: Provide students with the opportunity to take responsibility for the organisation, management and technical progress of an extended, research-led project. Provide the opportunity to apply learning and skills to a project at the frontiers of current knowledge. Allow students to demonstrate their skills in imparting technical information, both orally and in writing.
• Entry requirements
  Entry Qualifications Initially, the intake will be restricted to students from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China. The Chinese students will have undertaken a preparatory year of postgraduate study in China. It is anticipated that the programme will be extended to include students from other suitable partner universities in China.

  Compulsory modules in ‘Information Management’ (fifteen credits) and ‘Experimental Techniques’ (fifteen credits).
  
  -A choice of three ten-credit modules in mechanical engineering specialist subjects. Around sixteen modules are on offer, each based upon the research expertise of the member of staff delivering the module.
  -An extensive research project drawing upon the student’s previous year of postgraduate study at Nanjing and enhanced by both the compulsory and optional taught models at Sheffield. The research project carries a weighting of 120 credits.
  
  Teaching
  Research-led teaching will be delivered by academic staff from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Lectures will be supplemented by tutorial and example classes, coursework assignments and oral and poster presentations.
