Course descriptionThe MA Art and Design Programme aims to provide you with an understanding of the cutting-edge of 3D Modelling and Prototyping. It helps you develop your creative potential as a practitioner and provides you with the entrepreneurial and professional skills to work as a successful practitioner.
This programme enables you to explore the crossover between many disciplines that are concerned with the design and realisation of physical artefacts. From the commissioned designer-maker to the product designer, the uses of digital 3D modelling processes, 3D printing and rapid prototyping processes are an emergent and important area of contemporary practice. Whether concerned with artefacts intended for batch or mass manufacture, or for one-off craft objects, these processes integrate the use of digital technologies with design origination, development and visualisation processes.
Contemporary 3D modelling software is used to develop design ideas and solutions which are realised as screen images or as hard prototype artefacts to be used to communicate with clients and potential consumers.
Staff on the programme are experienced in research and professional practice. You will also benefit from contributions from visiting designers, makers and design professionals, as well as from involvement with our international exhibitions programme and close links with industry partners.
This programme would be of interest to product developers, jewellers and other designer-makers concerned with batch production of creative or designed objects.
Graduates of this programme are likely to find employment in a wide range of design and design-related fields in roles such as project directors, creative managers, design communications, product origination and research, product development and realisation, independent and commissioned artist-designers, studio artists and resource managers. This course is designed to help you develop your practice and give you the skills recovery to further your career in industry both in the UK and abroad. The course includes practice based modules where you will explore and develop your work as a 3D Designer. It also contains course or research skills, entrepreneurialism and professional practice. The final part of the course enables you to complete a major project.
