Advanced Clothes Making Skills - Course

  • Course description If you have completed the Clothes Making Skills short course and enjoyed it, you may be thinking, “Where do I go from here?” The ‘Advanced Clothes Making Skills’ course is your next step.

This informative course will help you understand further the processes required to make a professional and detailed ladies shirt; these will include more advanced pattern cutting techniques, information on fabrics, interfacings, lay planning, cutting fabric, and all required garment construction methods.

Through tutor led, step by step demonstrations you will compile a comprehensive folder of information including hand-outs as appropriate, supplemented by any note taking, the shirt pattern draft through to final paper pattern, appropriate sampling of the shirt specialist techniques and a final ladies shirt sample. Each week will build on the week prior, in a logical and progressive order, starting with the paper pattern through to finished garment.

You will gain in confidence working in a professional, yet relaxed and friendly, atmosphere. With guidance and encouragement from your tutor, you will be introduced to and learn more specialist processes involved in producing a much more detailed garment. This, in turn, will equip you with understanding further the principles of more advanced pattern cutting and garment construction, and should give you the confidence to be able to work on garments or other personal sewing projects of your own.

Pattern paper and calico for producing the shirt will be supplied during the course. You may prefer to buy your own fabric for the final shirt (but if so, to be discussed & bought after course start).
