ObjectivesWithin the context of a wide-ranging English and Comparative Literature course, the joint degree in English and Theatre Studies approaches drama from two directions: through the literary analysis of texts and via the understanding of playing places and performance. There is a special concern with the role of the writer in the theatre, as critic and as dramatist, in theory and in practice. Students also have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of optional modules in Theatre Studies, Creative Writing, Film Studies, History, History of Art and other departments. There are only limited opportunities for practical work within the syllabus; however, Warwick student drama is among the most active in the country. Prospective students should be motivated by a keen interest in theatre and should have some familiarity with plays in production.
Entry requirementsGeneral university admissions requirements All applicants must possess a minimum level of competence in English Language and in Mathematics or a Science. A pass at Grade C or above in GCSE English Language and in Mathematics or a Science, or an equivalent qualification, fulfils this requirement. We usually ask for candidates to show a broad base of study at GCSE level (or equivalent) with passes in at least five subjects from a range of disciplines.
