  • Objectives * A staff team of distinguished scholars with a strong research record * A recognised national centre for research on British cinema * This is the programme for students who are passionate about movies, want to analyse films in depth, are interested in the history of the cinema and its relationship to society and want to enhance their career opportunities in the media industries * Opportunities to combine the study of film with Arts Management, Creative Writing, English, History, Journalism, Photography and Video or Media Studies * A set of key foundation courses and a variety of exciting options * A wide-ranging approach to film * A supportive and well-equipped environment.

    Programme

    Students have the opportunity to study the history of cinema, and to analyse both classic and contemporary films from a variety of countries.

    Year One provides a thorough introduction to issues, ideas and practices associated with contemporary and historical film cultures, and places film within the context of other media. Year Two builds on this foundation with two modules examining International Cinema and Film Theory, and British and American Film History. Year Three allows the opportunity for greater choice and more in-depth and independent study through a dissertation, and specialist modules on Contemporary Film, Cult Film, Genres and National Cinemas.
