BA Tourism Management

  • Objectives The exciting new BA(Hons) Tourism Management integrates business and management education with social and environmental policy and planning for tourism. It seeks to equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience required by an increasingly diverse tourism sector, in which a range of management skills is required. The course builds on our established teaching and research expertise in both business studies and tourism studies, to provide a unique qualification that will set Bristol UWE graduates apart from students following more traditional tourism management courses.

    Year 1

    The first year of the course offers modules that explore critical aspects of tourism, together with modules that equip you with knowledge and understanding of key business skills. You are introduced to the historical development of tourism and its contemporary economic, social and environmental impacts. The study of tourism is set within a global business context and informed by the study of management and organisational behaviour, business information, technology and finance.

    Year 2

    Level two analyses tourism from the perspective of key academic and business disciplines including geography, marketing and research methods. At this level you can select option modules addressing leisure, tourism and cultural development, leisure and tourism management, nature tourism, human resources, employment relations, finance or business systems. Students also have the opportunity to study a language in level two and/or three, and can elect to take an optional placement in a tourism.

    Final year

    You have the opportunity to study aspects of tourism management in more depth, through the study of international tourism policy and planning and the selection of a dissertation or independent study project. The course offers a range of specialist options at level three that explore tourism and conservation, sustainable tourism, urban heritage tourism, the future of tourism, the management of events, conferences and exhibitions, travel business systems, organisational analysis and marketing.
