BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Mathematics

  • Objectives Students on this degree develop an appreciation of the mathematical principles that underpin electronics and the physical principles that inform applied mathematics to a depth which is not usual in engineering degrees. It will appeal to those who have a flair for maths and for seeing its application and relevance to engineering.
  • Entry requirements Required subjects: All courses require Mathematics at A2 level (or equivalent). A second A2 level should be in a science or engineering based subject. A third A2 level subject is also required (excluding General Studies). IB score: 30-32 (5 Mathematics + 5 Science at higher level)

    Programme

    Year One

You will gain an understanding of the principles and practices on which electronic engineering and mathematics is founded, achieved through the study of analogue and digital electronics, the application of electrical energy and practical work including programming and projects. Your appreciation of the aspects of science and mathematics, which underpin the subject, will also be enhanced.

    Year Two

You will continue to develop your understanding of electrical and electronic engineering. This will prepare you to study, in the final years of your course, emerging and advanced technologies usually taught by internationally recognised researchers. Group projects, presentations and seminars enable you to gain the skills and understanding essential for the workplace.

    Year Three

In the final year, you will be able to choose from a range of specialist topics. You will also undertake an individual research project, which forms a major component of your final year.
