  • Entry requirements Entry requirements * Normally 200 UCAS Tariff points from a minimum of two subjects at Advanced Level (or equivalent) * And * Normally Five GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths * However, we are also keen to talk to those mature students (21+) who have relevant industry experience and/or relevant training but who do not meet the above formal qualifications * BTEC Diploma/Certificate, Advanced VCE(s), Advanced GNVQ, Scottish Higher and Irish Leaving Certificate.

    Programme

    This programme provides students with an understanding of artificial intelligence concepts and techniques which can be applied to a variety of problems and subject areas. Students will be able to develop basic hardware and software models and programs and deploy artificial intelligence code to mobile robots to allow them to accomplish various types of tasks.

    The first year covers the foundations of computer science including system architecture, computer programming, database techniques, and web-interface design. During the second year students further develop their programming skills with object oriented software design and development and their database skills with data analysis and database design.

    Year two also introduces the students to the artificial intelligence and robotics aspects of the programme and embedded systems including low level programming of I/O devices and sensor systems.

    Year three is spent on placement in industry and this gives students invaluable professional experience and provides the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in the real world.

    A major part of the final year requires the students to undertake an individual project which requires them to apply both their theoretical and practical knowledge to a problem relating to artificial intelligence and robotics. They must also study a module relating to software quality, professionalism and ethics. To complete their final year they must select from a number of advanced modules relating to the artificial intelligence and robotics discipline.
