BSc Clinical Technology

  • Objectives * This is a vocational programme aimed at those who are employed within a hospital medical physics department specifically nuclear medicine, radiotherapy and diagnostic radiolog * The programme is developed and delivered in close association with the Institute for Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM). It is also accredited by IPEM.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Five GCSEs at Grade C or above, including Mathematics, English and Dual Science award or their equivalent Plus one of the following: * A minimum of 140 UCAS Tariff points (including at least two subjects, preferably at least one science subject at Advanced Level) * Advanced GNVQ Certificate or BTEC National Diploma/Certificate (in relevant subject areas) equivalent to the above * An Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education in Science (12 units). Applications from mature applicants with alternative qualifications and relevant experience are welcomed Accreditation for prior experiential learning will be considered. The award of Diploma of Higher Education (Dip HE) is available to students who opt to complete their studies after two years.

    Programme

    The programme has a common core of modules that cover the areas of Anatomy and Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Information Technology, Pharmacology, Communication Skills, Psychology and Research Methods. The programme structure allows students to follow a pathway specific to their own specialism. The specialist modules are of two types:

        * Specialist theory modules
        * Clinical practice modules related to work-based training.

    The specialist theory and clinical practice modules allow the integration of the appropriate professional qualifications into the Clinical Physiology Degree.

        * Specialist and clinical practice modules are offered in:
        * Nuclear Medicine
        * Radiotherapy
        * Diagnostic Radiology
        * Ultrasound.
