BSc Interdisciplinary Science

  • Objectives Interdisciplinary Science offers you the opportunity to study the science necessary to address major current scientific issues. Areas such as climate change, sustainable development and biodiversity will require policy makers, managers, educators and researchers, who can work effectively across different disciplines. The specially written modules that make up the University of Leicester’s pioneering degree cover the key concepts from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Sciences. You will engage in a research–led programme which will give you a wide-ranging understanding, specialist subject knowledge, and highly employable professional science skills.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements * BSc/MSci: A/AS Levels: Three A levels including at least one science subject at A2. Two AS levels considered in place of one A level. General Studies accepted. * Typical offer: BSc – BBB, although we make our actual offers on a case-by-case basis. MSci – ABB including grade A in a science subject. * GCSE requirements: BSc - Maths at grade B, MSci -Maths at grade A * Access to HE course: Pass with a substantial number of credits at level 3. * European Baccalaureate: Pass with 65% overall. * International Baccalaureate: Pass Diploma with 28 points (BSc) 30 points (MSci). * Leicestershire Progression Accord: 230-290 points as above plus full Accord credits. * Other Qualifications: BTEC Nationals, International, Irish, Scottish, OU and other qualifications welcomed. Mature students welcomed: Alternative qualifications considered. * Second year entry: Possible for those with advanced qualifications compatible with our degree structure.

    Programme

    First Year

    You study modules in: Archaeoastronomy; Biological Chemistry; Ecology; Climate Science; Neuroscience & Computation.

    Second Year

    You study modules in: Physical and Chemical Thermodynamics; Astrobiology; Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Forensic Science; Biophysics.

    Third Year

    You study modules in: Evolution; Nanoscience; Electromagnetism & Cell Signalling; Earth Systems Science. In addition to these you undertake a substantial research project in a field of interdisciplinary science, science communication or history & philosophy of science.
