BSc Mathematics with a Modern Language (4 Years)

  • Academic title Selected entry requirements English language: All entrants must have a recognised English language qualification, such as GCSE grade C or better, IELTS with an overall score of at least 6.5 or an equivalent qualification A level: Grades AAB. This must include grade A in Mathematics (with grades AB in modules C3 and C4 in any order) and grade B or higher in the relevant language (French, German or Spanish is required if that language is to be studied, or any modern language if Italian, Japanese or Russian is to be studied). Grades ABB accepted if this includes Further Mathematics. General Studies is welcomed but is not included as part of the offer. Two AS-levels are sometimes accepted in place of a non-mathematical/non-language A-level. Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications. Unit grades will not normally form part of offer conditions, except for Mathematics programmes. GCSE: Minimum grade C in English Language. Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification. However, as the opportunities to take these modules are not open to all applicants, currently this is not an essential requirement of the University. International baccalaureate: 33 points overall including 16 points at Higher level. Higher level points must include 6 in Mathematics and at least 5 in the relevant language (French, German or Spanish is required if that language is to be studied, or any modern language if Italian, Japanese or Russian is to be studied).   • Course description Course description
    This four-year joint-honours degree programme develops your language skills (in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish) whilst you train as a mathematician. The third year of your studies is spent overseas, either at a university studying mathematics, or improving your language on an approved course, or undertaking approved paid work (in a school for instance). During your three years in Manchester, you study mathematics and your chosen language in the ratio 2:1
