    A one year course designed for students who are interested in the fashion industry and wish to develop a range of basic skills.

    What does the course lead to?

    Progression to BTEC National Diploma in Fashion, BTEC Essential Fashion Skills.

    What does the course involve?

    You will study basic research and design, pattern cutting and garment construction. This course provides an excellent foundation from which to progress to other fashion courses, such as BTEC Essential Fashion Skills or BTEC National Diploma in Fashion. This is a structured programme focusing on the skills required for design development,  pattern drafting and garment construction.

    Course duration and hours

    The course begins in September and runs on Fridays for 36 weeks

    What are the facilities and equipment like?

    Faculty Services

    The course will take place in the specialist fashion/textiles studio.

    College services

    Services are available to help you with careers and educational guidance, personal counselling, Study Centres, an Learning Centre, help with childcare for 2-5 year olds and cafe services.

    How much should I study outside class?

    You will need to undertake research work for the practical projects as well as some independent study for approximately 4 hours per week. This will reinforce your learning and stimulate and  encourage your technical understanding and the manipulative skills required to succeed in today’s fashion market place.

    How is the course assessed?

    Assessment is continuous and credits will be awarded for each successfully completed unit.

    What books and equipment do I need?

    You will need scissors, needles, pins, tape measure, pencils, threads, pattern master, A4 folder with plastic sleeves and a sketchbook.
