  • Course description General information

    This course is for students who are already in employment as technicians within the mechanical and manufacturing industry. This course provides a good base to develop into a multi-skilled engineer for a career in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.

    Course content

    This course is organised on a unit basis.  

    Topics covered in Year 1:  

        * Application of mechanical systems
        * Mathematics for technicians
        * Mechanical principles
        * Communications for technicians
        * Engineering materials
        * Drawing and CAD for technicians

    Year 2 covers:

        * Project (double unit)
        * Further mechanical principals
        * Health, safety, risk assessment and welfare
        * Primary forming processes
        * Computer aided design
        * Business systems for technicians project.

    There is an examination at the end of each year. The in-course assessment and the examinations contribute to the overall pass mark.
