Course descriptionThis course is ideal if you work in environmental health or in housing services and want to improve your skills, knowledge and qualifications. It is also suitable training to begin a career in this area.
We developed this course as part of our sustainable communities programme, in response to changes in the environmental health profession.
The course runs over three semesters. You begin with an induction session and a general introduction to information and research skills. This gives you the skills and knowledge to research and report information on your course. It is also a good opportunity to network and meet other students, including students from other courses.
In semester one, you look at the way in which housing policy and legislation develops, and continue developing your information and research skills.
During your second semester you continue studying housing policy and the law, and look at how housing and urban policy developed from the nineteenth century to the present day in Britain. You start to look at how the law regulates housing standards.
In the third semester you develop your understanding of how the law regulates standards in housing, and study the construction of buildings and their problems.
This is a new course, but we have offered housing qualifications since 1991 and many people working in the sector have trained here. Our relationship with past students is strong, with regular guest lectures and other activities that let you network with colleagues past and present.
