  • Objectives To foster in students a comprehensive, detailed and in-depth understanding of cleft lip and palate, and its impact on an individual within social, educational and health contexts. To provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to observe and analyse human behaviours associated with cleft lip and palate. To provide students with an understanding of cleft lip and palate care within the health service context. To provide the educational base for professional work in the field of cleft lip and palate care, with particular focus on the management of disorders of communication
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Normally a good degree in speech and language therapy, with some professional experience of working as a speech and language therapist with individuals with cleft lip and palate

  • Course description Course content

    Four modules cover Speech Production, Assessment and Intervention in Cleft Lip and Palate, the Multidisciplinary Cleft Team and the Health Service Context for Professionals Working with Individuals with Cleft Lip and Palate.

    Teaching

    One year part-time, delivered as four short teaching blocks comprising:

    -Lectures
    -Seminars
    -Workshops and tutorials.

    Assessment
    By written assessments of various kinds: essays, case studies, etc, together with case presentations.
