  • Course description General information

    The BTEC Level 3 Diploma is a one-year programme of study that allows learners to focus on the skills of counselling and introduces them to different theoretical approaches.  The qualification is designed to be work-related and to enable students to develop counselling skills and theoretical knowledge. Many people working in a variety of professions are increasingly using counselling skills in their jobs. In recognition of this, this qualification is designed to develop learners as counselling skills practitioners. The qualification includes units introducing the main theoretical approaches to counselling, counselling skills and professional and ethical issues.

    Course content

    The qualification consists of five units:

        * Unit 1: Introduction to counselling skills
        * Unit 2: Introduction to theoretical approaches to counselling
        * Unit 3: Issues for the developing counselling practitioner
        * Unit 4: Human growth & development
        * Unit 5: Personal development

    Teaching and assessment

    All units will be assessed. You must pass all five units to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Developing Counselling skills. One of the Units will be assessed via an externally set assignment. Teaching will be experiential, skills practice and lectures.

    Progression

    The level 3 Diploma can develop the skills you need before embarking on training to become a counsellor, or are in a job where counselling skills are useful. The course also provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as: a Foundation Degree in Counselling. Bromley College runs an accredited 3 year Foundation Degree course (progression to the Foundation Degree is not automatic.)
