Entry requirementsWho is this course for? Young people aged 16-18. What do I need to get on the course? You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A-level courses which are based on your GCSE results general entry requirements for AS-levels In addition, for all performing arts courses we expect you to have achieved a minimum grade C and preferably grade B in GCSE English Language. We also expect you to have achieved a grade B or above in the relevant performing arts subject. If you have not taken the GCSE but have had extensive experience in the subject, this will be accepted as an alternative.
Academic titleAS Level Drama and Theatre Studies after completion of the first year, A Level Drama and Theatre Studies after completion of the second year.
Course descriptionWhat is this course about?
Drama and Theatre Studies aims to extend your knowledge, skills and understanding of drama and applying this to your own creative work. The emphasis is on working with play texts, improvisation, devised work and performing. Your studies will be done from the point of view of a director, designer, performer and critic and allows you to develop both your performance and analytical skills.
What will I study?
The AS Level is divided into two units:

* Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and TheatreUnit 2: Text in performance 1
In your first year you will study two contrasting plays in a practical, active way, creating both performance and notes about both plays. You will perform a monologue and be part of a group performance and you will also write a review about a live performance you have been to see.
In the second year you go on to study
* Unit 3: Exploration of Dramatic Performance
* Unit 4: Theatre Text in Context
The A2 year is about you as performer and director and requires you to create a unique and original piece of theatre. There is also a written exam for which you study one play from the point of view of a director and one play that is part of theatre history.
Throughout the AS and A2 there are theatre trips to support and inform your work.
What can I do after the course?
Students on this course have progressed to study drama at universities and Drama schools for example LAMDA, Central School of Speech And Drama, Manchester Metropolitan, Hull, Bristol And Kingston.
