  • Entry requirements What background and qualifications do you need to join?To join the Foundation Degree in Early Years you will need to:* Be 18 years of age or over* Have a suitable level 3 qualification in childcare, such as the CACHE Diploma in Childcare & Education, BTEC Diploma in Early years (at Merit grade or above)* Be employed in an early years setting such as a nursery, primary school or similar establishment throughout the course. Two years experience is generally the minimum expected.* Provide proof that you have full support from your setting for the duration of your studies.* Complete the college admissions procedure.

    The foundation degree is a part-time course (one day/one evening per week in college) validated by London South Bank University, (LSBU). It offers professional development and enhanced career prospects whilst allowing students to continue to work.

    What does the course lead to?

    The course follows a design approved by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and opens opportunities for further study and qualifications. While the Foundation Degree is a qualification in its own right, you can progress to an Ordinary or an Honours degree after further study.  Alternatively, you can undertake the work-based Registered Teacher Programme, leading to Qualified Teacher Status.

    What does the course involve?

    The foundation degree is a part-time course (one day and one evening per week in college) validated by London South Bank University, (LSBU), that runs over two years. The Foundation degree is made up of 12 core modules, covering areas such as cognitive development, developing curriculum practice, social and emotional development, and child protection.

    How much should I study outside class?

    You will have to be prepared to spend a considerable amount of your own time studying, in addition to college attendance.
