  • Course description General information

    This intensive course meets the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety Executive to become a qualified first aider. HSE First Aid Guidelines state that low risk (shops, offices etc) premises employing more than 50 staff should have at least one fully qualified First Aider. For medium risk (food processing, printing, warehousing, light engineering etc) premises employing more than 20 staff should have at least one fully qualified First Aider. For high risk (construction, chemical manufacture, dangerous machinery etc) premises employing more than 5 staff should have at least one fully qualified First Aider.

    Course content

    This qualification covers the following topics:

        * Health and Safety Responsibilities and incident management
        * Priorities of First Aid
        * Unconsciousness
        * Resuscitation
        * Control of bleeding and using dressings
        * Treatment of shock
        * Heart Attacks
        * Burns, Scalds, poisoning and eye injuries
        * Fractures and miscellaneous injuries e.g. falls, cuts, grazes and head injuries
        * Assessment

    Teaching and assessment

    After successfully completing the assessment you will receive a certificate valid for three years. Candidates must re-qualify within 28 days of this certificate expiring to avoid taking the full four day course again. To comply with HSE requirements for this statutory course, 100% attendance is necessary.
