Course - Introduction to Colour Management

  • Entry requirements Attendees need to have a basic knowledge of both Photoshop and computers but will not need any prior knowledge of Colour Management. This is not suitable for beginners in use of Photoshop.
  • Course description What does it include?

    The course outline for the first day is as follows:

    Colour management introduction:

    What is colour management?
    Why is colour management important?

    Working Spaces:
    -What are working spaces?
    -Why do we need them?

    Photoshop:
    -Setting up Photoshop for colour management

    Monitors:
    -The importance of calibrating monitors and using profiles
    -What are the differences between using CRT and LCD monitors?

    Printing:
    -Generic verses custom made profiles
    -Using a profile with a printer

    Scanning:
    -Working with calibrated and un-calibrated scanners
    -Working with untagged scanned images

    Digital Cameras:
    -Embedded profiles from cameras
    -Introduction to working with RAW files

    The course outline for the second day is as follows:
    Practical work:
    -Using colour management in scanning own work
    -Editing own work in a colour managed environment
    -Printing own work

    Advance Photoshop techniques covered:
    -Using Levels and Curves
    -Using Adjustment layers
    -Effective use of masks in layers
    -Resizing images whilst retaining integrity of image
    -Using unsharp masks

    Progression towards professional development in further/higher education or employment.
