What does the course include?
This course is for 16-18 year olds who wish to obtain a qualification in Practical Working Skills based in a workshop setting.
A package of introductory units to practical working skills including:
* Painting and decorating
* Plumbing
* Joinery
* Wall tiling
* Applying for work
* Meeting deadlines
In addition the course contains:
* Literacy
* Key Skills in Numeracy
* IT
* Tutorials
* Career advice.
What do you need get on the course?
You will be interviewed to see if you have an interest in practical skills, a good reference from school, connexions or employment, and you will have to take a college literacy test. To get on the course the results from the test should be:
How is the course assessed?
You will have to produce a portfolio for the units consisting of written, graphical and photographic evidence, witness and recorded statements. The Key Skills in numeracy is assessed through coursework and an exam. Literacy will be assessed by an exam.
Where does it lead?
Students can progress onto more specialised National Certificate courses at Level 1.
